For those that have no idea what swagbucks is, it is a search engine that pays you to use it. No, NOT EVERYTIME you search, but you will be surprised how often you will gain “SwagBucks” just for typing a few characters into their search bar.

Here is the painless method to join (and find out more prior to signing up):
1. Go here and register.

Both Kathy and I have enjoyed searching via SwagBucks, and like telling people about the company.

All You magazine + allyou.com = FREE STUFF!!

If you are new to couponing, you really want to subscribe to all you magazine. If you have never seen all you magazine (exclusively at WalMart stores or various sites online), it is packed with money saving coupons and is one that I read every month as soon as it arrives in our mailbox. Kathy and I regularly find coupon match-ups weekly using this magazine.

As Billy Mays used to state, “But Wait, There’s More…” in this case I want to tell you about allyou.com and their DAILY FREE SAMPLE page (the link goes to the FREE SAMPLE for October 15, 2010, and as of right now (8AM EDT) has not been unveiled.

Here is the awesome part about the giveaways. All you usually need to enter is your first initial, last name, email address, SOMETIMES your birth date month/year, and the address that you want the samples mailed to. Most of the items are health and beauty, but once in a while they do toss in household items. The other really cool thing, and what just cost me over an hour of my life because it has been a few weeks since I visited the site, is that you can go back a few months and still request the samples (if they are still available). So go sign up for some NAME BRAND FREE stuff from allyou.com

Here is a list of the coupons that appeared in the October 2010 issue of all you magazine.

How to EASILY Get a Copy of your Florida Birth Certificate.

I just deleted the entire back story as to why I decided to go to the Florida DMV Office located at 4101 Clarcona Ocoee Rd in Orlando to purchase an original certified copy of my State of Florida Birth Certificate.

For me, paying the $14.00 fee made so much more sense as opposed to spending an entire day going through all my folders and hoping I find it. YES, we had it in a folder filed away, but none of the envelopes that holds each person’s papers contained my magical proof of actually being born.

From the time I parked to the time I drove away, with a crisp certified copy of this most official piece of paper, was LESS THAN 10 minutes.

So, if you need a copy of your State of Florida Birth Certificate, check your with your local DMV office to see if they offer this service yet.

My Life Has Changed…

Hello everyone. I am still figuring out how to juggle a new job (need to help pay the bills of life after all) and keeping FrugalFloridian.com alive.

One change I have had to cut back on is the store lists. I know that FrugalFloridian.com was one of if not the ONLY site(s) that would post the entire list of weekly featured items. The biggest thing is that I manually would type the lists, which took too much of my time away from other daily activities in my life. I tried all but paying someone to do the typing for me. Currently I am still in discussions with some of the companies to offer me a major hand in this task. The major obstacle is that they have never had a partnership with anyone else like I am offering them. It is a long shot, but I tossed it out to them and they are mulling my offer over.

As for finding and then reporting on the tearpads, blinkies, and more, that I find in the stores, that will not change, as you can see by the posts below.

I mentioned a need to help pay the bills of life at the beginning of this post. FrugalFloridian.com, just did not make the kind of money that I needed it to make in order for me to remain the stay at home Dad that Kathy and I envisioned.

When we created FrugalFloridian.com Kathy and I knew that we did not want to turn it into a site that so many other site have morphed into. One thing we wanted the site to be easy on the eyes, no eye-straining color schemes, offer the info in very easy to find areas, BUT above all, we wanted to help you know Where and How to Save Money in the Sunshine State. I would like to think that though we do not tell you about every single opportunity to save money at stores that we know do not exist in Florida, that we have helped you save a decent chunk of change.

One last thing in regards to FrugalFloridian.com, I am still tweaking one area that I know will continue to help our readers save money, and make it easy to do so. It is proving to be tougher then I thought it would be to port from a behind the scenes resource that Kathy and I use daily to a resource that we can host on this site. It IS do-able, just needs some work before it is ready for the big reveal.

Hand Washing Dishes vs Dishwasher Challenge.

A couple of months ago Kathy and I knew we need to do something to save on the power bill. From a test last year we knew we could both survive with the AC set to 78 degrees. We just keep the ceiling fans on and I am happy. Only when we have company over to we go to a lower temp.

Though we have no control over the price we pay to the power company, we DO have total control over how we use the power supplied to our home. We have certain givens that can not be turned off, such as the spare stand up fridge/freezer in the garage, and the two AC units that run pretty much nonstop in our house during the summer months (set to 78 degrees TYVM). We also average a load of laundry per day and run the dish washer either every day or will skip a day or two.

So, with the above items, what one item could we do with out? We picked the dishwasher. I headed to one of my favorite stores, IKEA, and purchased a wooden plate drying rack. The agreement was that we would hand wash and air dry our dishes for a couple of months and see if the amount of power we used, based on our monthly bill decreased or not a dramatic amount.

Well, after two months of a water bill that was nearly DOUBLE of what it has usually been before the test, we expected to use more water then the amount needed by the dishwasher, but DOUBLE the amount? Not so much. Yes, the power bill did go down over the past couple of months, BUT no where close to offsetting the amount that the water bill increased.

During our testing period, the only thing we changed in our lifestyle was that I hand washed the dishes (btw that means filling one half of kitchen sink with hot water and dish soap, and then the over side as the rinse off area. We knew we were going to use more water. Cutting down on water use was not the point, saving a bunch of money on the power bill was.

Outcome of the test, anybody want to buy a used wooden IKEA Dish Drying Rack?

A Change IS Underway at FrugalFloridian.com

When Kathy and I started FrugalFloridian.com over a year ago, as far as we knew at the time (and Kathy had already been doing couponing for several years online) there was not ONE blog that had Floridia Centric grocery store pricing. Yes, there WERE blogs that were based in Florida, some even had Florida cities in their name, but the majority of the information presented was based on out of state information and like the other sites, treated our state as a second class shopping area. Pricing was not the same, blogs that listed only the final price were using double/triple coupons in their equations, it was a frustrating time. Out of that frustration FrugalFloridian.com was born. Our main goal was to show people Where and How to Save Money, whether it be at the grocery store, shopping for other items at stores, and on things to do in the State of Florida.

Starting next week I will have the new format in place for how the Florida based coupon match-ups will be presented for Publix, Winn-Dixie, and Albertsons. This change relates only to the weekly inserts, and not the other monthly inserts.

You will still post when I find Blinkies, Tearpads, Booklets, etc. and other stores. Such as, showing you where to find high value coupons for the stores in Downtown Disney.

In the coming weeks I will debut a feature that I know our Florida based readers and visitors to the Sunshine State will appreciate immensely.

True to the name FrugalFloridian.com, we will continue to show you Where and How to Save In Florida.
